Tipping on the Cruise

Tipping on a cruise ship is appropriate. Knowing who to tip and when to tip becomes a little confusing at times. Tipping does not require expense when on a cruise. Tipping shows gratitude for a service well done and on cruise ships the tipping range is small, since will tip foe services you receive if they provided good service. Depending on how many times you use their services depends on how much of a tip you should leave. Tips for activities and entertainment do not meet tipping practices on cruise ships. Paying your tips at one time towards the end of the cruise helps with keeping track of monies spent while on your cruise. The proper amounts and times for tipping allow you to keep track of what you are spending and allows more money to enjoy onboard activities and entertainment.

Tipping for Who

Room service on a cruise requires a small tip, nothing big, but a couple of dollars will be fine. The dining room waiter receives just two or three dollars and the assistant waiter receives one or two dollars of appreciation. This standard of tipping is per person including children. The porters that handle your luggage and the taxi driver onshore receive a little tip as well. Tipping the room steward usually averages two to three dollars. Any drinks from the bar delivered to your room already include a fifteen percent gratuity. The people you never give a tip to are the officers and members of the cruise line. There may be other persons to tip, but for the most part on a cruise, these providers receive tips when serving your needs.

When to Give the Tips

On the last day of the cruise you can then place tips for appropriate service providers in supplied envelops that the room steward will leave in your room. Another way for tipping the service providers is to ask for this addition to your final ship bill before departure. Tip your tour guide right away when the tour ends. Some cruise lines prohibit their crew from receiving tips and this rule includes everyone, they request that you respect this tradition. Find out before from the cruise lines about tipping procedures so as not to offend anyone.
